Brian Austin Oakes

Brian received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alabama Law School, and in 1996 was admitted to practice before State and Federal courts in Alabama as well as the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Brian enjoys a general trial practice with an emphasis in Employment, Criminal and Civil litigation.

A native and life long resident of Morgan County, Alabama, Brian Austin Oakes received his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Communication Arts, Cum Laude, from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he served as Student Government President and was recognized by DSR-TKA National Debate Honorary Society as the 1992 National Speaker of the Year. He was named Mr. UAB 1992 by the UAB National Alumni Society for outstanding dedication to his University and to the City of Birmingham.

Brian’s professional activities include academic pursuits. Brian is adjunct faculty at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in the School of Humanities’ Department of Communication Studies, and is an adjunct faculty member at Calhoun Community College teaching Family, Administrative and Business Law. Brian serves as President of the Alumni Advisory Board to the UAB Department of Communication Studies and was elected to the Board of Directors for the UAB National Alumni Society in 2002.

In 1998, Brian was elected to the Morgan County Democratic Party Executive Committee and currently serves as Chair of the Morgan County Democratic Party. In 2003 Brian was selected by State Democrats to serve as the United States Fifth Congressional District Representative to the Board of Directors for the Alabama Democratic Party. Brian, at the request of the State Democratic Party Chair, acts as an Administrative Law Judge for election contests for the Alabama Democratic Party.

Brian remains committed to community service. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Decatur. Brian serves as general legal counsel to Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County and to the Spirit of America Festival, America’s largest outdoor, totally volunteer, Independence Day Celebration.
